It's been a goal around here lately to keep fresh roses in a bowl on the dining room table. The biggest rose bush outside has exploded, so why not take advantage, right? Yesterday I was outside cutting blooms for the bowl and cutting dead heads off to make way for new growth, and it was such a small town in Spring moment that I almost rolled my eyes. Once the weather warms up around here, everyone is always outside. I was out cutting roses, and a neighbor two houses down one way was working in his garage, and there were kids running around in a front yard two houses the other way. A couple neighbors directly next door were at their car having a discussion, and I could hear my dog bumping into the front door because she wanted to be out with me. It was a lot, but it was really nice.
When I went back inside afterwards, I left windows open so I could hear the birds and air out the house. I can see into an open field from the window near my work space, and all the trees are fully grown now (when I moved here eleven years ago, it was a new development). Sometimes I don't know what I'll do without this town, but I know that I'll have to move on eventually. I'm sort of floating here for the time being.
