A Makeup Nuance Compares Primer Samples

I was good at makeup once, I swear, but I stopped wearing it for a few years, and now I can't seem to do anything beyond a little cat eye and some concealer. I'm slowly easing back into my makeup curiosity, so I thought a good place to start would be with these two primer samples. I tested these while getting ready to take other photos on two different consecutive days.

Day one: Benefit's The Porefessional

Barefaced

First the primer...

What am I supposed to be looking for?

... concealer...

... and eyeliner.

After wearing my makeup for some hours with the primer underneath, I didn't notice much of a difference. I could still see pores, and the skin underneath the bridge of my glasses was particularly slippery, which is why my makeup only stayed on for maybe four hours. However, I was running back and forth quite a bit, and the makeup never looked patchy, and I could appreciate that.

Day two: Smashbox's Photo Finish Foundation Primer

Barefaced

Primer...

... concealer...

... eyeliner.

On day two, I found that I preferred the Smashbox primer to the Benefit Porefessional, and I actually wore it again a few days later, and again a few days after that. Though I could still see some of my pores, this primer definitely covered more than the first one. The skin under the bridge of my glasses wasn't as slippery, and the makeup stayed on while I was running around just as much as the day before. On the days I've worn the primer since, it's lasted even longer, and it's certainly a good product. I understand the accolades now.

Would I go out and buy the full sized version of the product? I'm not sure. I don't wear makeup enough these days to justify spending the money, but if I ever found myself in the routine of wearing a full face everyday again, I'd consider it. It was a fun experiment anyway. Note that this still is not, nor will it ever be a beauty blog. I'm just a little curious, you know? It was worth trying.

  4. I like that you put a lot of personality into your product review shots! The aesthetic of the photos fit your blog so well. Always a little bit of grain.

The Benefit Porefessional was awful on me. It just felt slippery.

  5. Thanks for the review! I personally didn't try any of them but I'm interested in a primer that smooth pore and keep the skin matte. The Smashbox sounds great to me. Right now I am not using a primer but the Makeup Forever HD micro finish powder and it really help to smooth out the pores and keep the foundation clean and fresh.
