Wardrobe Nostalgia

I've fallen into a style rut. I trapped myself into the cycle of trying to find a specific aesthetic, and I'm so bored and over it. The remedy? Wearing literally whatever I feel like, even if it means I wearing a non-poncho-crochet-thing. Actually especially if I'm wearing an non-poncho-crochet-thing. It's lovely and cozy, and almost makes me think of something Molly Weasley would wear. Right?

Molly Weasley: Style Icon

It's nostalgia, which is possibly an issue, I know. Nostalgia isn't a great thing to lament over too much, but I do it more than I should, and I miss wearing mini-dresses and knitwear and tights. These are all technically "in" still, but I used to live in that uniform, and I haven't worn it in ages.

Certain items of clothing are comforting I suppose. A pair of black tights. A worn in sweater. Warm toned dresses. These make me think of Autumn primarily, but also of comforting moments gone by. I think of warm drinks and crisp air, and binge-watching childish Halloween movies for two straight months. There's a good chance I've started that early this year.

Actually, all of those things have to do with Autumn.

Basically, personal style can be traced back to emotions and seasons, and specific memories, both good and bad. I'm going for the good. As the season of all out comfort returns, I'm falling back in love with pieces that enhance the happy feelings. Nostalgia isn't healthy to focus on, no, but in a way, I'm just falling in love with unapologetic personal style all over again.

I'm making my own "style" personal. I'm indulging in nostalgia. At least for today. At least for the moment. I change my mind all the time. It'll be different soon. I'll ramble about something else then.

  1. Hope that you'll find your way back to your style whether it's an old one, new one or a mix of both. I hope I'll catch up with some fall inspo by the time fall definitely arrives. As we talked about on my blog, I feel like I could make my outfits even more chic all the time! Xx

  2. Lovely post, Amber. I agree, personal style is something that's formed over time and comes to you naturally through feelings, memories and taste - it's not something that can be forced! On a different note, I love how much you adore Autumn, haha ;)

  5. YES. Indulge in it for you, letting yourself fall back in love with personal style with no apologies. I associate clothing with memories, too. Can't believe it's almost autumn. On another note, I want all the fabrics in this post. You make textiles look so appealing.
